Determinants of support and participation in a major sport event referendum

In recent years, referenda have been used to inform decisions bid on major sport events. Recognising as a means engage community in event, the purpose of this study was investigate determinants support and participation intention. A sample 603 New Zealanders completed questionnaire a) intention participate such referendum. Based exploratory factor analysis assessing b) their for referendum city bidding host Commonwealth Games, multinomial logistic regression, key findings are that political cynicism, civic duty, event status involvement affected voters’ support, while interest, impacted voting intentions. The results implications prospective cities, managers, policymakers, ordinary citizens.
